Keyshia Cole Net Worth, Career & Relationships
Keyshia Cole, originally named Keyshia Myeshia Johnson, was born on October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California.
Her biological parents, Francine Lons and boxing trainer Virgil Hunter, were not present in her life until she reached the age of 34 in 2016.
Francine, who reportedly had six children with different fathers, placed Keyshia for adoption when she was two years old.
The adoptive parents were Leon and Yvonne Cole, who were friends of the family.
During her childhood, at the age of 12, Keyshia and her brother Sean had an encounter with MC Hammer, which led to them recording music together.
Later, she became friends with Tupac Shakur and was asked by him to collaborate on an upcoming project in 1996.
Unfortunately, Tupac was tragically murdered on the same night, and their collaboration never came to fruition.
At the age of 16, Keyshia got involved with the East Oakland Youth Development Center, and she attended Fremont High School.
However, she dropped out before completing her education, though she began working towards her GED in 2015.
At 18, she made a move to Los Angeles and started collaborating with artists from the Bay Area such as Messy Marv and D’Wayne Wiggins from Tony Toni Tone.
Keyshia’s breakthrough came when she was introduced to Ron Fair, an executive at A&M Records. Impressed by her talent, Fair signed her to the label, becoming her mentor in the process.
